Introduction
About the Course: Myth vs Fact
Myth: "I only need to complete the terms that Mr. Johnston assigns the day of the test- the others don't matter."
Myth: "Reading the book isn't that important because Mr. Johnston goes over the material anyway."
|
Fact: Each term is important, not just the ones you have to write out. Chances are that most (if not all) of them will pop up in the multiple choice. Be prepared!
Fact: Reading is the MOST important part of this class. It will help you understand what you are hearing and also makes you better prepared for class time. If that isn't enough of a reason to read, just remember that Mr. Johnston purposefully throws in some harder questions on his tests to check your understanding and to make sure you are doing your work. And as I've learned from experience, reading the book is a HUGE part of what separates an A student from a C student.

About Mr. Johnston
Mr. Johnston has been teaching history at West since 1997, so he's got a lot of experience teaching AP United States History; the 2014-2015 class had a 95.2% passing rate (and the 2015-2016 class was HIGHER- amazing job everyone!) on the final exam! As long as you pay attention and do your work on time, you will be very successful.
Weekly doughnut days are always a treat and endless funny Johnston quotes and crazy stories make any lecture brighter. By the end of the year, every class is full of fond memories, usually immortalized by the class shirt. Remember that if you ever need help with anything, Mr. Johnston has prep time 3rd hour and 8th hour, plus there's always the midday Flex Time. If you have any questions or problems, he'll be happy to help you then. Otherwise, you can contact him through the info on his school website. |
About Me
|
My name is Amanda Z. and I've taken World Studies (2012-2013), AP United States History (2013-2014), CSI (2014-2015), AP European History (2014-2015), and I've also been a student aide (2014-2015)- all under the instruction of Mr. Johnston. Wow, that sounds like a lot (and that doesn't even include Government and Wars and aiding my upcoming senior year) but it's all been a blast for this aspiring high school teacher! While all of the history courses were enjoyable, AP United States History will always hold a special place in my heart.
For that reason, I decided to give making student websites another go! I've done many of the documents for the first site and I ran the first AP Euro website. I'll try my best to stay updated!! If you ever have any questions about what the class was like from the students' perspective, don't hesitate to ask me! From term taking to shirt making, I'll be happy to give you a few pointers. I will be Mr. Johnston's aide 5th hour first semester and 3rd hour second semester. Otherwise, you can email me at [email protected] or fill out the contact form. |
